New keys, new house
A lock is only as secure as the list of people holding a key to it. Here's when to call a locksmith.
Move-in
Rekey first
Previous owners, builders and contractors may still have keys. Rekeying makes the old ones useless.
Lost key
Rekey or replace
A lost key on a ring with your address is an open door. Change the pins, keep the hardware.
Staff change
Commercial
When an employee leaves with a key, rekey the doors they could open.
Worn lock
Repair
A key that sticks or turns hard is a lock about to fail. Repair it before it locks you out.
