What to tell Scott when you call
- The address, or a nearby cross street if you're not sure
- Whether it's a home, business or car
- How many doors are locked and what kind of lock (a regular knob, a deadbolt, a keypad)
- Whether your keys are inside, lost or stolen
That helps Scott bring the right tools.
While you wait
- Stay somewhere safe and well lit. If it's hot, find shade or wait in an air-conditioned spot nearby.
- Don't force a window or door. Broken glass and frames usually cost more than the lockout.
- If a child, pet or anyone at risk is locked inside a home or car, call 911 first.
After you're back in
If your keys were lost or stolen, have Scott rekey the lock while he's there so the missing keys stop working. A rekey keeps your existing lock and changes the pins inside it, so it usually costs less than replacing the lock. If the lock is worn or damaged, he can replace it on the same visit. More on rekeying and lock replacement.
Business owners locked out after a staff change should ask about rekeying every door the old keys opened. Commercial locksmith service.
Paying for the lockout
Scott takes card, cash, Zelle and check. Businesses can set up purchase orders or net terms with a written agreement.
Have your ID ready
Before he opens a home, Scott asks for ID or proof that you live there. It protects you as much as anyone: a locksmith who opens a door without checking would do the same for a stranger. If your ID is locked inside too, mention it when you call.
